It is funny how deceptive time is and how it can change speed. There is a slow run up at the beginning of the year, things start to speed up and it is the end of the year whizzzz… another year gone. What happens to all the time? It is just eaten up like a Pacman game.

With so much happening many of us are overwhelmed and don’t seem to have enough time in the day to do all that we have to. We are also so involved in what we are doing that there doesn’t seem to be a gap to step back and look at what we are doing. Are we going about things the right way or even doing the right thing?

When entering a new space you can see things new, in that moment. But being in any space for too long, the past, present and future sort of get stuck together. You can’t see the space as it is now. When looking at something you are not seeing it now (in present time) but actually as it was days, months or even years ago. This is why an outsider can observe objectively and see things that the person involved in a situation can no longer see.
When you go on holiday, away from the space of your home, and return, you see all the defects and little faults that you normally glance over. Before the holiday you were stuck in the same space; with your life on an automatic time cycle; that you began to see from a fixed time and space perspective. You were not actually seeing what was there in the present moment.
Objective and independent
All of this may sound philosophical, and it is, but it explains why management cannot see the gaps and control weaknesses that are right in front of them. It takes an independent and outside eye (and ear) to observe what is there right now.
